Chapter 3
In chapter 3 the author talks about the importance of having a servants heart. He used the story of David and how he was content with just watching over the sheep and writing songs of Gods greatness. His humble attitude led him to play in front of a king. This is a concept very different to the current world view of success. Many musicians today are only fuccosed on making it to the top. But the author encourages us to focus on having a broken heart for God and have a desire to please him.
I got a lot out this chapter. Many times I find myself only focussing on personal success and trying to make it to the top. It reminded me that it is important to do it in order to serve God and with that mentality success will come either way. God gives us talents in order to worship him and have a servants attitude toward what we do in life. And it is important to remember why you are doing it.
I like how you incorporated Krauter's take on the story of David and his musical background. I also enjoyed reading on how you emphasized the modern musician and how they always want to be on top. In your reflection, I enjoyed reading upon how this chapter helped you remember to serve God and not focus on the superficial things in life.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was great how you talked about your personal struggle with striving for personal success. I can definitely relate with that- oftentimes I can find myself trying to be perfect even though I know that I need to lean on God. I think that's something that we should all work on.
ReplyDeleteI like that you made this chapter so personal to you. It is so easy to try to focus on how good the music sounds and be the best. However, like you said, God gave us talents to be servants. I like that you gave the reminder that we lead worship to serve God.
ReplyDeleteI think it's so true, so many people these days are completely focused on what's best for them while never thinking about others around them. I think as long as we stay close the lord and read his words it's so possible to live a life full of humility.
ReplyDeleteWell said, David. I get focused on my own success as well and it's important to step back and remember why we do what we do and to do it with a servant heart.
ReplyDeleteI really like what you said. It's easy to get into the success mindset of making it to the top but we need to realize that that's not what it's about. We need to be especially humble as worship leaders.
